Jerry P. Rainey Biography

 

The Jerry P. Rainey Scholarship Fund focuses on assisting qualifying students who display outstanding potential in their chosen major.  Academic excellence, community involvement, and personal character are the primary considerations weighted for selecting a recipient.  The fund was established in Two scholarships in the amount of $250 each will be awarded in person annually on or before August 21.  The review process will be limited to the first 100 applications received.  Additional scholarships can be awarded at the discretion of the review committee.

 

1. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants will meet the following requirements in order to be considered for the scholarship:

A. Must reside in the greater El Paso, Texas/Las Cruces, New Mexico area.

B. Must be enrolled in an accredited university, college, or technical school.

C. Must have completed at least 24 credit hours of college coursework.

D. Must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

E. Must have contributed or are contributing to the local community.

2. Application Process

Submit an application packet no earlier than May 20 and no later than June 20 via U.S. mail to:

3. The application packet will include:

A. Completed application form.

B. Proof of GPA.

C. Proof of completion of at least 24 credit hours of college coursework.

D. Written or typed essay, 500 words or less, describing contributions to the community and life goals.

E. Reference letter from two members of the community other than family members.
